Top 25 Games of the PS3/Xbox 360 Era: Part 2 – Still Gaming Strong!
We’re back with part two of my top 25 games of the last generation! In case you missed the first installment, be sure to check out Top 25 Old Gen Games: 25-21.
Now, let’s continue our journey down memory lane with five more unforgettable titles:
20) Yakuza 4
Forget The Godfather and The Untouchables. When it comes to gritty crime dramas, the Yakuza series from Sega takes the cake. Yakuza 4 ups the ante with four playable characters, each with their own unique fighting style, motivations, and connections to the Japanese underworld.
The game weaves a captivating story, blending cinematic cutscenes with engaging gameplay. From intense brawls to a plethora of minigames, there’s always something to do in the sprawling city of Kamurocho. And with weapon customization, gambling, and collectibles galore, you’ll easily sink 30-40+ hours into this gem.
If you’re a fan of Japanese culture, crime dramas, or just looking for a damn good time, Yakuza 4 is a must-play.
19) Dead Space
As Halloween approaches, it’s the perfect time to revisit one of the most terrifying games of the last generation: Dead Space. This sci-fi horror masterpiece will have you jumping at shadows and sweating bullets.
You play as Isaac Clarke, an engineer trapped on the USG Ishimura, a derelict spaceship overrun by nightmarish creatures. The lack of a HUD and the emphasis on strategic dismemberment (aim for the limbs!) create an unparalleled sense of immersion and dread.
If you’re looking for a truly terrifying experience, play Dead Space alone, in the dark, with headphones on. Just don’t blame me if you can’t sleep afterward!
18) Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception
When my trusty launch PS3 met its untimely demise, I snagged a bundle deal with a PS3 Slim and Uncharted 3. It was a blessing in disguise, as I got to experience one of the most iconic PlayStation franchises.
Nathan Drake’s adventures are a rollercoaster of cinematic storytelling, witty dialogue, and thrilling set pieces. Uncharted 3 delivers all that and more, with stunning visuals and a surprisingly enjoyable multiplayer mode.
My only gripe? The final act’s tendency to devolve into an over-the-top supernatural spectacle. But hey, that’s part of the Uncharted charm, right?
17) Infamous
Infamous is a PlayStation exclusive that lets you unleash your inner superhero. Playing as Cole MacGrath, wielding the power of electricity, is an absolute blast. The story might not be the strongest, but the gameplay more than makes up for it.
Soaring through the air, scaling buildings, and unleashing devastating electrical attacks is pure joy. The game’s open world is a playground for your powers, and the moral choices you make along the way add an extra layer of depth.
Just don’t get me started on those damn Blast Shards…
16) BioShock
BioShock is a game that needs no introduction. It’s a masterpiece that redefined the first-person shooter genre with its immersive world, captivating story, and unique blend of combat and plasmids (magical powers, basically).
Set in the underwater dystopia of Rapture, the game’s atmosphere is both beautiful and unsettling. The story twists and turns, keeping you on the edge of your seat until the very end.
If you haven’t experienced BioShock yet, do yourself a favor and dive in. It’s a game that deserves its place in gaming history.
